The tech and medical industries are the biggest employers throughout the Greater Austin area. In Lakeway, the Regional Medical Center, now a part of the Baylor Scott & White hospital network, opened in 2012 and continues to expand. The 54-acre hospital development will include medical services, retail, and medical offices. While many residents commute to Austin, Lakeway has several large employers, including the Lake Travis Independent School District and the Lakeway Resort and Spa in addition to the new medical center.
In nearby Bee Cave, the Hill Country Galleria offers a wide selection of shopping, dining, and entertainment opportunities. A new mixed-use development, Oaks at Lakeway, has been constructed in Lakeway and features a new H.E.B. grocery store as well as numerous restaurants, retail shops, and entertainment venues.
Students in Lakeway are zoned to the Lake Travis Independent School District. Most of the schools in the district receive excellent ratings by the school ranking website GreatSchools.org, with Lakeway, Lake Pointe, and Serene Hills Elementary Schools and Lake Travis Middle School all receiving 10 of 10 scores. Nearby private schools include International School of Texas, Magnolia School, and Abercorn International School.
For higher education, Austin Community College has several campuses near Lakeway, including Cypress Creek just 18 miles away. Concordia University is nearby as well. In Austin, colleges include University of Texas at Austin, St. Edward’s University, and Huston-Tillotson University, as well as several specialized schools.

The city maintains excellent community amenities, including a multi-use activity center, the historic Heritage Center, a swim center, and numerous parks and trails. There are several greenbelts and a new park called Canyonlands with hiking and biking trails, as well as a skate park and dog park. Lake Travis offers a plethora of water sports and activities, with the standard lake fare such as fishing and boating as well as more adventurous options like sailing, fly-boarding, and zip-lining.
