Developer to Build Massive New Community Just West of Austin

Austin is an ever-growing city, as evidenced by the new communities spring up both within the city and along the outskirts. In western Travis County, a major new community called Thomas Ranch is in the works. There is a lot to learn about the new community so keep reading to hear the latest!

Thomas Ranch Key Facts

This new community will rest on approximately 2,200 acres. On that land, lead developers from Blakefield, LLC plan at least 3,300 new buildings — a mixture of homes, apartments, shopping centers, entertainment paces, restaurants and more. In the end, it is forecasted that between 6,000 to 10,000 new residents will move to Thomas Ranch.

While the total cost of the planned community is unknown, Blakefield representatives say that construction could start as early as 2018, with the first homes going up in 2019. From there, it is estimated that the entirety of the project will be completed in 15 to 20 years.

Major Amenities Planned for Thomas Ranch

Restaurants, shopping opportunities and entertainment venues will of course be built to suit the needs of a bustling new suburb. Other planned amenities include a hotel, town square and community garden.

One of the major driving forces behind the design of Thomas Ranch is natural spaces. The developers’ vision for this community is one that allows people to lead an outdoorsy lifestyle. That is why plans for Thomas Ranch include the preservation of Hill Country. Residents will have easy access to two natural areas, Lake Travis and Pedernales River. On top of that, the community is planned with plenty of trails for hiking and biking.

Drivers Behind Austin Expansion

It comes as no surprise that Austin would build a new suburb in light of the overall housing and development trends in Texas. Nationally, Texas ranks first for the number of new master planned communities in development. In fact, 38% of all MPCs in development in 2016 were located in Texas, a number that has grown roughly 10% since the 1990s.

Specifically, Austin ranks high as one of the best places to live. Austin also ranks high globally as a place to make investments.
